Terms of Use

Last updated: 4 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and PTRI Innovation Private Limited (“we”, “us”), the maker of the ChargeBuddy app. By using ChargeBuddy you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

The short version
  • ChargeBuddy helps you find EV chargers. We don’t run chargers or sell charging.
  • Charger locations come from public data. Status, scores, comments and rider prices come only from riders. ChargeBuddy does not edit them, and no company can pay to change them.
  • Information can be wrong. Always check at the charger.
  • Never use the app while driving.
  • Keep your check-ins honest and respectful. We may show them to other riders.

1. Who can use ChargeBuddy

You must be 18 or older to use ChargeBuddy. You can use the app as a guest; your data is linked to a random guest ID stored on your phone.

2. What ChargeBuddy is, and isn’t

ChargeBuddy is an information service that lists public EV chargers, shows their status, reliability and prices, and lets riders report what they find. We do not own or operate any charger, and we don’t sell or take payment for charging. Charging sessions, payments and refunds are between you and the charging network that runs the charger.

ChargeBuddy is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the charging networks shown. Network names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify each network.

3. Information may be wrong

Our charger list comes from public government data (Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency), OpenStreetMap, Open Charge Map and information charging networks publish themselves. Status, reliability scores and rider-reported prices come from riders’ check-ins. Prices from networks are shown as published, before GST. Chargers can break, be busy, change price, close or move at any time, and riders can make mistakes.

We do our best to keep information accurate, but we don’t guarantee that any charger is working, available, compatible with your vehicle, open, or charges the price shown. Please plan for this, especially on long trips, and confirm details at the charger or with the network.

4. Rider reports are independent

Everything ChargeBuddy shows about whether a charger works comes from riders, not from us and not from any company:

  • Status (working, or down/maintenance) is based only on recent check-ins from riders who were at that charger.
  • Reliability scores are worked out automatically from rider check-ins in the last 30 days, using the same rules for every charger and every network. If no rider has reported on a charger, we show no score.
  • Comments, photos and rider prices are written or taken by riders and reflect their own visit and opinion. They are not statements by ChargeBuddy or PTRI Innovation Private Limited.

ChargeBuddy does not create, edit, raise or lower any rider report, status or score to favour or harm any charger, network or company. No charging network, advertiser or other company can pay us, or ask us, to change a score, hide honest reports or move a charger up or down. We don’t accept payment for rankings.

To keep reports honest we apply the same automatic limits to everyone (for example, one report per charger every few hours and a daily limit), and we may remove content that is spam, abusive, fake, illegal or breaks these terms. Removing content for these reasons is not editing a report’s meaning.

ChargeBuddy acts as an intermediary for rider content under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it. If you believe any content is unlawful or factually wrong (for example, a wrong address or connector), contact our Grievance Officer below. We will acknowledge complaints and act on them within the times the law requires. Charging networks can ask us to correct factual details about their chargers, such as location, connectors or published prices; we don’t remove honest rider reports because a company disagrees with them.

5. Stay safe

  • Don’t use ChargeBuddy while driving. Set your destination before you start, or let a passenger use the app.
  • Obey traffic laws and road signs. Directions come from Apple Maps or Google Maps and may not reflect road closures or local conditions.
  • Follow the charging network’s instructions and safety rules at every charger.

6. Your check-ins, comments and photos

When you check in, report a charger or add a comment, photo or price (“your content”), you confirm that:

  • it is honest and based on your own visit;
  • you have the right to share it, and photos you take are of the charger or its surroundings;
  • it does not include other people’s personal information, number plates, or faces where avoidable;
  • it is not offensive, abusive, misleading, illegal, or advertising.

You keep ownership of your content. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, resize and use it in ChargeBuddy, to show it to other riders, and to include it in charger statistics such as reliability scores. This licence continues for anonymised check-ins after you delete your account, as described in the Privacy Policy. We may review, hide or remove content that breaks these terms.

7. What you must not do

  • Submit fake or misleading reports, or try to game XP, levels or badges.
  • Copy, scrape or download ChargeBuddy’s data in bulk, or access it by automated means, except as allowed by law.
  • Reverse-engineer, interfere with or overload the app or our servers, or try to access other riders’ data.
  • Use ChargeBuddy for anything illegal or harmful.

8. XP, levels and badges

XP, levels and badges are for fun and recognition. They have no money value, can’t be exchanged or transferred, and we may change them or remove points gained by breaking these terms.

9. Your guest account

Your guest account is tied to the phone it was created on. If you uninstall the app, reset or lose your phone, you may lose access to your saved chargers and XP. You can delete your account at any time in Profile › Settings; see the Privacy Policy for what happens next.

10. Changes and availability

We are improving ChargeBuddy all the time and may add, change or remove features. We aim to keep the app available but can’t promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may update these terms; if a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it applies. Using ChargeBuddy after that means you accept the updated terms.

11. Suspension

We may limit or end your access if you break these terms or misuse the app. You can stop using ChargeBuddy at any time.

12. Disclaimer and limit of liability

ChargeBuddy is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, information in the app, including a charger not working, being busy, charging a different price, or a trip being delayed. Where the law does not allow us to exclude liability, our total liability to you is limited to ₹1,000. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under Indian consumer protection law that cannot be limited.

13. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts in Ahmedabad, Gujarat have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any consumer rights you have to bring a claim where you live. Before going to court, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue.
